...to the home of the
Penitent Brothers
Pax Intrantibus -
"Peace to those who enter."
We are often asked,
why penance in the 21st century, isn't it archaic and a waste
of time? Theologically it depends on how one looks at the path to
salvation. The Penitent Brother views the "salvific express" as being
one where we share fully in the sacrifice of the cross. His Holiness
Benedict XVI stated that, "the Cross is truly the place where God's
compassion for the world is perfectly manifested."
This manifestation
was first fulfilled by the prophecy of Simeon, and shared by
his mother: Mary's heart was pierced through (cf: Lk 2-35) by the
suffering endured by her son, the One born of her flesh. Her suffering
continues today seeing the sorrow of all. She endures the pain, shortcomings and offenses committed against her Son. Her compassion and love like her Son is never ending.
The symbol of her
sorrow is depicted by the seven swords that pierce her heart, a heart
that has suffered through the agony of seeing her Son crucified, and
the sorrows which we inflict on her Son daily.
As Penitent Brothers
we strive to be extensions of that love by embracing and living the
Evangelical virtues of charity, humility and penance while
simultaneously being witnesses for Christ.
Thank you for taking
time to visit, we hope you find it informative. Please remember our
bothers and those we serve in your masses and prayers.
On behalf of all the
brothers, we bid you welcome, and pray you "God's Peace."
