About
Us
We are a "blended and multi-faceted community of Roman
Catholic men, "married and single, committed to the Rule of the
Penitent Brothers as delineated by our Constitutions and Directory. We
live independently, are self-supporting and are striving for spiritual
perfection by following the Gospel Life. Our community is an
"Association of Christ's Faithful” with Corporate Offices in
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We individually perform
ministry for the Greater Church by preaching the Gospel, serving the
poor, formulating educational services for the youth, ministering to
the sick, elderly, homebound, activities involving parish ministry as
well as being of service to persons who suffer from AIDS. We praise God
through music ministries and chaplaincies.
We gather for a community day once each month in our various regional
communities located in New England and New York, where we pray in
common, study penitential spirituality, sing the Liturgy, dine
together, and conduct the affairs of business. We are committed
to a structured prayer life, consisting of frequently attending daily
Mass and reception of the Hoily Eucharist; daily recitation of the
Liturgy of the Hours and weekly recitation of the Rosary of the Seven
Dolours.
We embrace the opportunity for each Brother to seek the solitude of
prayer, daily Mass, and meditation in addition to community practices.
Our goal as Penitent Brothers is to seek spiritual perfection with the
help of our fellow brothers for the journey, allowing ourselves to be
broken and shared for the love of Jesus and His friends. The
Penitent Brothers are under the protection of Our Lady of Sorrows and
the patronage of Saint Michael the Archangel.
